Jesse James’ Rainbow Story
as told by Mom

{trigger warning for infant loss}

He’s my rainbow baby… My miracle. My little gift.

I always wanted to be a mother, but when I was younger I was diagnosed with PCOS and Endometriosis and was told that I would never be able to have kids of my own. When I met my husband we decided to try anyway and to our surprise, we actually did end up getting pregnant! This was last year in 2017. Due to complications, we had to deliver at 29 weeks. We welcomed a beautiful baby girl named Mia Lee into our world. Unfortunately, she got very sick in the NICU and passed away at 23 days old.. my heart was broken. Times were really hard for me and my husband. It took a while for us to decide if we even wanted to try again.. we decided on “someday it may happen again for us”. So about a year passed by and I started to have some medical issues with my heart. One night, I ended up in the emergency room, and, to our surprise, we found out we were pregnant, again. We we’re shocked! We hadn’t been actively trying and I was having complications with my birth control (my mirena partially imbedded into my uterine wall and I had to get it surgically removed). Because of this, I was told that the chances of me becoming pregnant again were slim to none. Plus, I still had PCOS and Endometriosis, so I figured the odds were stacked against me anyhow. But when the ER DR came in with my EKG test results (among several other tests for my heart) he looked at my husband and I and told us we were pregnant. Despite our shock, we were so overcome with joy! It’s hard to explain the emotions that take over when you get news like that; wonderful news, that you weren’t expecting, especially following a tragedy with our beautiful Mia.
I started seeing a cardiologist for my heart, and a maternal fetal medicine specialist, on top of my OB/GYN and my primary physician. I wasn’t going to let anything happen to my little miracle. It was a rough pregnancy, but I was thankful every day! On September 14th, 2018, I had a gentle c-section and at 9:40pm, we had a beautiful 6lb 5.7 ounce baby boy, with a full head of thick blonde hair and gorgeous eyes just like his sister’s. His name is Jesse James, and he is my heart, my soul, my everything.
